The Union government on Thursday allowed health and motor third party policyholders to defer their renewal, if it falls between March 25 and May 3— the period.

Now, the policyholders can pay for the renewal of their policies till May 15. Earlier, the government had deferred the renewal payment till April 21 but since the was extended, more time has been given to pay for the renewal and even the period under consideration has been increased.

India went into lockdown on March 25. During the early phases of the lockdown, activities not contributing to the production and supply of essential goods and services were completely or partially suspended. Passenger trains and flights were halted.

Since then, the government has announced relief measures for migrants, and made arrangements for migrants to return to their native place. The Supreme Court, recognising the problems faced by migrants stranded in different parts of the country, reviewed transportation and relief arrangements made by the government.

Indian Gas Exchange (IGX), the country’s first exchange, will start operations on Monday at a time when a gas hub conceptualised during the first tenure of the NDA government is yet to become a reality.

IGX, set up by the Indian Energy Exchange (IEX), will offer option of both just buying the product as well as purchase along with delivery. “For normal transactions, IGX will be charging a nominal fee of Rs 5 per unit, while for delivered transactions it will be charging Rs 7,” said a person close to the development. The delivered transactions will require ensuring pipeline availability with operators, too.
