The formula for how to crack the bestseller’s list is as elusive as ever, but it’s still at the top of many aspiring authors’ wish lists. I was one of those authors for a long time. I hoped that my own book, Panic! Germs and the American Mouth, would make the list. And, just a few days after the book’s launch, it did; the book hit #2 on the bestseller list.

Two cases are currently in the news in which it seems like a large number of investors may lose their hard-earned money. One is the case of Mumbai-based Anugrah Stock & Broker, which seems to have promised its clients an assured return. It used their money to trade in the futures and options (F&O) segment and sustained losses there. The other case is of a Kerala-based entity that collected money from depositors promising them very high rates of return. That scheme has collapsed. Both these schemes are currently under investigation.

By now, anyone who’s paying attention to workplace diversity, equity and knows that and racial representation are essential to organizational growth. Studies have shown time and time again that companies with diverse leadership teams are more profitable and innovative. Employees are also more engaged, and customer retention is higher. 

Based on a study by legendary consulting firm McKinsey & Company, when an organization has more gender and ethnic diversity, the likelihood of financial outperformance in the market is an average of 35 percent greater.

Achieving parity is a process

Large- and mid-cap strategies, however, underperformed the index, with average returns of 2.25 per cent. The mid-cap category returned 8.1 per cent, higher than the Nifty MidCap 100’s 7.8 per cent. The small-cap and small- & mid-cap category performed in line with the Nifty SmallCap 100, while multi-cap funds returned 4.8 per cent on average, higher than the 3.7 per cent given by Nifty 500.

For a one-year period, 120 of the 160 schemes outperformed the Nifty50, which gave returns of 3.3 per cent. Top performers for this period include Equirus Securities’ Long Horizon Fund (58.6 per cent), followed by Valcreate Investment Managers Life Sciences & Specialty Opportunities (55.5 per cent)
