The firm, involved in property lending and private credit, also saw a 19 per cent uptick in managed loans to $197 million. Transactions announced during the quarter include MAF acting as financial adviser to Brookfield on its sale of C3 Group, and to Tuhu Car on its acquisition of mycar. Real Estate Fund Redemption Pause

The firm paused all applications and redemptions for its MA Secured Loan real estate credit fund. This decision followed raised outflows from the private credit fund. The pause is intended to aid orderly management amid uncertain borrower repayment timings.

MA Financial reported that the majority of its business segments are performing strongly. However, the company noted that operations in real estate private credit have faced challenges. These challenges were driven by the macro environment within the residential construction sector.

Challenges in Private Credit

The company emphasized strong performance across most private credit segments, particularly asset-backed credit, operational real estate like pubs and marinas, and core real estate. Transactional activity in real estate and hospitality exceeded $1 billion in the quarter, positively impacting investor sentiment, with MAF shares rising 2% on the day of the update.
