Global Pay Connect is the newest SaaS solution from Bottomline, aimed at helping financial institutions extend payment capabilities beyond legacy connections.

Platform design addresses outdated infrastructure

The service offers API-driven functions and allows third-party data feeds, targeting the bottlenecks that research links to slow real-time payment adoption.

Vitus Rotzer, Global Head of Banking GTM at Bottomline, said, “Financial institutions are trying to build a foundation for richer operational intelligence and emerging payment models.” He added that the shift now focuses on adaptable infrastructure rather than simple network links.

According to Bottomline’s internal study, 90% of CFOs feel board pressure to adopt AI and automate, while 76% doubt their current systems can support rapid change. The same research shows 40% of finance leaders remain blocked by legacy tools, and only 28% enjoy modern API-enabled SaaS environments.

With global real-time payment volumes set to double by 2028, a trend that leaves little room for outdated platforms to slow progress.

Key capabilities and operational impact

The platform connects to major rails such as Swift, SEPA, Bacs, CHAPS, CHIPS, Lynx, EBICS and host-to-host links, while also supporting emerging blockchain networks.

It includes ISO 20022 transformation, payment data enrichment, and Message Vault capabilities. Real-time visibility into payment activity and AI-enabled insights help firms extract more value from transaction data.

Control features bundle operational resilience, compliance checks and fraud-prevention tools into a single adaptable suite.

By merging legacy rails with modern APIs, AI analytics, advanced fraud controls and blockchain links, the solution aims to eliminate operational silos and unlock real-time intelligence from payment streams.

Strategic partnership expands blockchain reach

The launch follows a collaboration with Chainlink, a provider of cross-chain connectivity. Through Chainlink’s CCIP, the platform offers a network-agnostic bridge to multiple blockchain ecosystems.

“As a top-three Swift service provider, Bottomline provides critical payment connectivity to the world’s largest financial institutions,” said Johann Eid, Chief Business Officer at Chainlink Labs. “By combining Bottomline’s reach with Chainlink’s infrastructure, Global Pay Connect enables hundreds of financial institutions to use their existing infrastructure to access onchain payment rails through a single, network-agnostic connection.”

Integration with Swift remains intact, allowing institutions to modernize operations while retaining trusted global messaging pathways.
