Indices fall for second straight session as investors stay in risk-off mode

The equity benchmarks nursed losses for the second straight session on Thursday as investors offloaded banking, finance, and infra stocks amid expiry of monthly derivative contracts and lacklustre global cues. A depreciating rupee and weak Q2 results from blue-chips further sapped risk appetite, traders said. The Sensex ended 172.61 points, or 0.43 per cent lower, at 39,749.85 in choppy trade. On similar lines, the broader Nifty fell 58.80 points, or 0.50 per cent, to 11,670.8. L&T was the top loser in the Sensex pack, dropping 4.99 per cent, after it…

Crude oil price rebound may come in late 2021, says pipeline giant

The recovery in demand, coupled with the retrenchment in the US shale sector, could lead to higher oil prices as soon as in the second half of 2021, according to one of the top bosses of the largest pipeline companies in the world. “Given the combination of the record retrenchment in drilling and completion activities by US producers, refocused capital allocation and the effects of steep decline curves resulting in a decrease in shale production, we believe this price signal for higher crude oil prices could occur as early as the second half of next year,”…

UBS Wealth, State Street pick Indian stocks as US election hedge

Indian stocks provide a good hedge in portfolios ahead of the US presidential election, thanks to a domestically oriented economy. That’s according to UBS Group AG’s wealth-management arm and State Street Global Markets, which are among firms recommending Indian shares even beyond the November 3 vote, as they expect the $2.1-trillion stock market to be relatively insulated from the election outcome and Sino-US trade tensions. Easing coronavirus infection rates and economic reopening are further strengthening the case for a market that’s trading near record valuations. Foreign investors have pumped $2.3 billion…

Aurobindo Pharma to sell US-based Natrol for about Rs 4,048 crore

Hyderabad-based Aurobindo Pharma has reached a definitive agreement to sell its US subsidiary Natrol LLC to private equity firm New Mountain Capital and its affiliate Jarrow Formulas in an all-cash transaction valued at $550 mn (about Rs 4,048 crore).
